The New York to Ghana Shipping Route
New York is one of the largest hubs for Ghana-bound freight in the United States, driven by a Ghanaian diaspora community of over 150,000 in the tri-state area alone. Shipments leave regularly from the Port of New York and New Jersey (Port Newark/Elizabeth Marine Terminal), bound for Tema Port — Ghana's primary deepwater container and RoRo port, located 25 km east of Accra.
Guldstreet Shipping consolidates freight weekly, meaning your barrel or personal effects are never waiting long for the next vessel departure.
Your Three Shipping Options
1. Barrel Shipping (Sea Freight)
The most popular choice for diaspora shippers. Standard 55-gallon barrels packed with personal effects, food, clothing, and household goods. From $200 per barrel. Transit: 28–35 days to Tema Port.
2. Door-to-Door Service
We pick up from your New York address and coordinate delivery to your recipient's door anywhere in Ghana — Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, Cape Coast, and beyond. Ideal if your recipient doesn't have transport to collect from a port or depot.
3. Shop & Ship
Don't have time to shop? Give us your list, we purchase the items, pack them, and ship. Popular with professionals who want to send goods home without the hassle of shopping trips to Pathmark or the African markets in the Bronx.
Key Dates and Deadlines
Because we consolidate shipments weekly, there is a cutoff date for each vessel departure. Barrels received after the cutoff roll to the next week's vessel. Contact us at +1 (551) 800 2125 for the current cutoff calendar — especially important around the holidays (October–December) when demand spikes and vessels fill up fast.

Shipping Around the Holidays
Christmas and the Ghanaian holiday season (December) is the busiest period for NYC–Ghana freight. Book your barrel shipment by late October if you want it to arrive before Christmas. We recommend shipping no later than the first week of November to guarantee pre-Christmas delivery at Tema.
How to Reach Your Recipient After Arrival
Once the vessel docks at Tema, your recipient will receive notification from the clearing agent. Clearance typically takes 3–10 business days. For door-to-door customers, we coordinate the final leg of delivery directly.
