What shipping to Ghana from Massachusetts looks like now

Guldstreet Shipping now picks up across Massachusetts. If you have been driving barrels to New York or asking a cousin to drop boxes somewhere in New Jersey, you can stop. We come to Worcester, Boston, Dorchester, Lowell, Lynn, Brockton, Malden, Framingham and Springfield on our New England route, and we take barrels, boxes, totes, suitcases, bags of rice, furniture, appliances, cars and containers.

Here is the short answer to the question most people ask first. A 55-gallon barrel to Ghana costs $190 and that price includes door pickup, ocean freight to Tema, customs clearance at Tema, Ghana import duties on personal effects, and door delivery in Accra and Tema. You pack it, we collect it, and it arrives cleared. Everything else in this guide builds on that one fact.

If your town is not on the list above, message us on WhatsApp at +1 (551) 800-2125 and we will tell you what is possible. Our Massachusetts pickup page is at /topics/barrel-shipping-new-england/.

Where we pick up in Massachusetts

Our drivers cover Worcester, Boston, Dorchester, Lowell, Lynn, Brockton, Malden, Framingham and Springfield. These are the towns on the current route. If you are in a neighboring town, ask us before you assume anything, because routes change and we would rather tell you yes or no than have you guess.

Pickups in Massachusetts run as scheduled Sunday pickups on our New England route, with a minimum of two barrels or boxes per pickup. The dates to plan around are Sunday, November 15, 2026. We call these Pickup Sundays. Put them on the calendar the way you would a church event, because that is how they work: a fixed day, a route, and a driver who arrives when the schedule says.

One practical advantage of a fixed route: neighbors, family members, churches and community associations can combine shipments at one address for a group pickup. If four households on the same street each have a barrel, that is one stop for the driver and one easy morning for everyone. The minimum of two barrels or boxes is met quickly when people pool their shipments.

Barrels, boxes, totes, suitcases and bags of rice

This is the core of what we do for Massachusetts households. The 55-gallon barrel is $190 to Ghana. The 65-gallon barrel is $220 and the 75 to 77-gallon jumbo barrel is $240. Boxes are priced by exact retail size, from a small U-Haul box at $55 up through wardrobe boxes and electronics boxes. Totes, suitcases and bags of rice are on the same published list: a suitcase is $60, a 25 kg bag of rice is $35 and a 50 kg bag is $65, and we pick up and ship the rice for you.

Shipments to Togo and Cote d'Ivoire cost a little more per item. The full list is on our barrel shipping page at /services/barrel-shipping/, and you can get a free instant estimate at /topics/estimate/. Treat the estimate as a guide and ask sales for a written quote before you book.

What the $190 includes matters, so here it is again in plain terms: door pickup, ocean freight to Tema, customs clearance at Tema, Ghana import duties on personal effects, and door delivery in Accra and Tema. Delivery to other Ghana cities such as Kumasi or Takoradi is quoted separately before booking, so tell us the final destination when you book, not after the barrel sails.

One thing to keep straight: $190 ships a barrel you packed yourself. If you want us to buy the goods and fill the barrel, that is a different service starting at $580, covered further down.

Appliances, furniture, mattresses and televisions

Massachusetts families often ship more than a barrel. Sofas, folding tables, mattresses, televisions and appliances all move on the same ocean service, and the prices are published rather than hidden.

  • Sofa, 3-seater: $600. Sofa, 4-seater: $750.
  • Folding table, 4 ft round: $70. Folding table, 6 ft rectangular: $65.
  • Cooler or ice chest, 150 qt: $110.
  • Mattress and television prices are published in the instant estimate at /topics/estimate/.

Appliances need a word of caution. Used fridges, freezers and air conditioners are banned from import into Ghana, so we ship new units only. If you are buying a fridge for a parent in Accra, buy it new and keep the receipt with the packing list. For anything else regulatory, confirm with the agency or a licensed customs house agent before you buy.

Cars, SUVs and pickups from Massachusetts

We ship cars, SUVs, pickup trucks and commercial trucks from Massachusetts to Ghana by RoRo or in a container, whichever suits the vehicle. That includes cars bought at auctions in the state, which is common for buyers who want a specific model at a workable price.

USA and Canada vehicle shipments are quoted per job in writing. A car quote excludes inland transport and every service before the car reaches our warehouse, any GS 4510 inspection once it is reinstated, and Ghana duties and port charges. Read that sentence twice if you are comparing quotes from different companies, because a low number that excludes duties is not a low number.

Before you buy anything, use the free Ghana car eligibility checker at /advocate/eligibility/. It will save you from the worst outcome in this trade, which is buying a vehicle that Ghana will not admit. Flood, fire, rebuilt and salvage vehicles are barred. Right-hand-drive vehicles are admitted only under a regulated conversion framework that is still being set up. Reports on the used-vehicle age limit conflict, with some saying 10 years and others 15, so confirm the age limit before you buy.

On inspection rules, be careful with what you read online. The GS 4510 pre-shipment inspection and Certificate of Conformity were due from October 1, 2026, but the Ghana Standards Authority suspended the inspection on October 5, 2026, with no new date announced. We will tell you when that changes. Full vehicle details are at /services/vehicle-shipping/.

Heavy equipment, generators and containers

For business owners and contractors in Massachusetts, we handle heavy equipment and machinery by RoRo, flat rack, open top or breakbulk as the cargo requires, along with generators and full container (FCL) and shared container (LCL) shipments. Equipment and container shipments from the USA and Canada are quoted per job in writing, because a generator and a container of building materials do not belong on the same price line.

If you are shipping a container of goods for a shop in Kumasi or a hardware business in Tema, tell us the commodity, the volume and the destination and we will put the numbers in writing. Details are at /services/commercial-freight-ghana/.

Business Desk bulk buying and Shop and Ship

Shop owners in Massachusetts use our Business Desk, which Ghanaians often call bulk buying. We buy in bulk for you from Amazon, Walmart, Target, wholesale clubs, distributors, Alibaba and 1688, within each seller's purchase limits. We photo-check every item, consolidate and pack, then ship to Ghana. Orders we buy for the customer ship by air every week. Dedicated full containers sail on the next weekly departure, and shared containers go on our consolidation schedule, confirmed at booking. You can also have your own suppliers deliver to our warehouse, but only after the full quote is paid.

One quote covers the whole job and is paid in full upfront. Every order gets an itemized invoice, a packing list for Ghana customs and a monthly statement. Business shipments are quoted per shipment in writing. Start at /business/business-desk/.

If you are not a business but want to buy from any US store, Shop and Ship does the same work for a household: we buy, photo-check and ship, on one quote paid in full upfront. That is at /shop-and-ship/order/. And if you want us to buy groceries and essentials and fill a barrel for family, our Fill-a-Barrel service starts at $580 for the Essentials Barrel, which includes about $250 of goods, the empty barrel and the shipping.

Door delivery and last-mile delivery in Ghana

Getting the cargo to Tema is half the job. The other half is getting it to the person you shipped it for. Our last-mile service collects from Tema, Takoradi, Kotoka cargo terminal or consolidator warehouses and delivers to the door anywhere in Ghana. That includes cargo shipped by other companies, which is useful if a relative shipped something and the consignee cannot travel to collect it. Last-mile delivery is quoted per delivery. See /services/last-mile-delivery/.

Shipper's Advocate for bigger shipments

When a shipment is large, or when the paperwork is complicated, the Shipper's Advocate service gives you protection and advice from someone on your side of the transaction. Members pay 20% less on services. If you are shipping a car, a container or a business order for the first time, this is worth a conversation before you commit money. Details are at /advocate/.

Before your Pickup Sunday: a checklist

Use this the week before your pickup. It takes ten minutes and prevents most of the problems we see.

  1. Confirm your pickup date and address on WhatsApp, and make sure at least two barrels or boxes are going.
  2. Pack the barrel tightly, use the free packing guide, and keep the weight reasonable so it can be handled.
  3. Write the consignee's full name, Ghana phone number and final destination city on the label, and put a copy inside the barrel.
  4. Decide whether delivery is Accra or Tema, or another city, and ask for the delivery quote before booking if it is elsewhere.
  5. For appliances, confirm the unit is new. Used fridges, freezers and air conditioners cannot be imported.
  6. For a car, run the eligibility checker and confirm the age limit before you pay for the vehicle.
  7. Have the payment ready. There is no deposit. The invoice is paid in full before loading.
  8. Keep your invoice and packing list where you can find them, and send a copy to the consignee.

How booking works

Message or call us on WhatsApp at +1 (551) 800-2125 with what you are shipping and where you are in Massachusetts. We send a written price and a pickup date. You receive an invoice. Then you pay in full before loading: online by card or PayPal, or by Cash App or cash to the driver at pickup for barrel and box shipments. There is no deposit, and we do not accept Zelle, bank transfer or wire.

Every invoice shows a card and PayPal price and a 3% lower non-card price. Cash to the driver at pickup is available for barrel and box shipments only. Vehicles, heavy equipment, containers and commercial cargo are paid by card, and cash is not accepted for those.

For cars, remember that U.S. CBP needs the title documents at least 72 hours before export, so have the paperwork ready early. For Ghana, Ghana Shippers' Authority registration is required before ICUMS processing under Act 1122, enforced from August 2026, and the PUBD is filed on arrival or within 48 hours. Your licensed customs house agent will handle the details, and you should confirm anything unusual with them directly.
