Guldstreet Car Shipping Process: From Quote to Tema

A practical walkthrough of the Guldstreet car shipping process, from initial quote and documentation through ocean transit and customs clearance to delivery at Tema and beyond.

For dealers, diaspora families, contractors, and fleet owners, shipping a vehicle to Ghana involves more than booking space on a vessel. The Guldstreet car shipping process is designed to bring order to each stage: quoting, documentation, loading, ocean transit, customs clearance, and final delivery. This article explains what happens at each step and what you need to prepare, based on the services and facts we can confirm.

Step 1: Requesting a Quote for the Guldstreet Car Shipping Process

The process begins with a quote. For vehicles leaving from the USA or Canada, rates are quoted per job because factors such as vehicle size, origin, destination, and required equipment vary. For shipments from China, we publish vehicle rates for fuel and hybrid (HEV) vehicles with valid export documentation: large SUV or pickup truck 3,500 USD; compact SUV 2,800 USD; large sedan 2,350 USD; compact sedan 1,700 USD. If export documentation is not available, add 500 USD per vehicle. All quotes are subject to current conditions and must be confirmed in writing.

You can get an instant price estimate as a guide only, but you should contact our sales team for current prices and a written quote. Use the estimate tool on our website or call us directly to discuss your specific vehicle and destination.

Step 2: Documentation and Compliance

Proper documentation is critical. For China-to-Ghana vehicle shipments, valid export documentation is required to qualify for the published rates. Without it, the additional 500 USD per vehicle applies. For all origins, you will need the vehicle title, bill of sale, and any export documentation required by the origin country.

Ghana has specific import regulations. The Ghana vehicle import standard GS 4510 is enforced from October 1, 2026. This requires pre-shipment inspection and a Certificate of Conformity. We will guide you through this requirement to ensure your vehicle meets the standard before it ships.

Step 3: Booking and Deposit

Once you accept the written quote, a 30% deposit confirms your booking and pickup. Deposits can be made by Zelle, Cash App, bank transfer, or card. We do not accept cash for deposits.

For vehicle shipments, payment must be made by card, bank transfer, or other non-cash methods. Cash is not accepted for vehicles, heavy equipment, containers, or commercial cargo. Every invoice shows a card/PayPal price and a 3% lower non-card price. Card payments are welcome for these shipments.

Step 4: Pickup and Loading

We offer door-to-door pickup for vehicles in the New York City and New Jersey areas, as well as Philadelphia. For other locations in the USA and Canada, we can arrange transport to the port. Once at the port, your vehicle is loaded onto the vessel using the appropriate method: RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) for running vehicles, or flat rack, open top, or breakbulk for heavy equipment and machinery as the cargo requires.

We also handle full container (FCL) and shared container (LCL) shipments, giving you flexibility depending on your volume and budget.

Step 5: Ocean Transit to Tema

Your vehicle then sails to Tema, Ghana's main port. Transit times vary based on origin, routing, and vessel schedules, so we do not publish fixed transit times. We keep you informed of the schedule and any changes.

Step 6: Customs Clearance at Tema

On arrival at Tema, we handle customs clearance. For personal effects, our barrel price includes customs clearance and Ghana import duties. For vehicles, customs clearance is arranged as part of the shipping service, and any applicable duties and taxes are payable by the importer. We ensure all paperwork is in order to avoid delays.

Step 7: Delivery in Ghana

After clearance, we arrange delivery. For vehicles, delivery in Accra and Tema can be included; delivery to other cities such as Kumasi, Takoradi, or Cape Coast is quoted separately. We also provide last-mile delivery from Tema, Takoradi, Kotoka cargo terminal, or consolidator warehouses to anywhere in Ghana, including for cargo shipped by other companies. This service is quoted per delivery.
