Guldstreet Shipping Brings Professional-Services Discipline to U.S.-Ghana Cargo Trade

New York-based shipper publishes a five-point service standard as compliance, export enforcement and freight volatility reshape the transatlantic route

NEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2026, Guldstreet Shipping, a door-to-door shipping company operating from New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia to Ghana, today set out a professional-services approach to diaspora and small-importer cargo, publishing a five-point operating standard it calls The Guldstreet Standard. The company said the shift responds to structural changes on the route rather than to seasonal demand.

Why now

Four forces are converging on U.S.-West Africa shipping, according to the company and to published regulatory and market information.

Compliance is moving to the point of origin. The Ghana Standards Authority begins strict enforcement of used-vehicle import standard GS 4510 on Oct. 1, 2026, requiring pre-shipment inspection in the exporting country by GSA-approved inspectors, a Certificate of Conformity and importer registration with the authority's Vehicle Homologation Unit. Water-damaged, fire-damaged and structurally defective vehicles are barred. Ghanaian media report that vehicles older than 15 years will be refused; the GSA says the measure is not a ban on used vehicles.

Export enforcement has tightened. New Jersey prosecutors in 2026 charged 63 people in a ring that shipped more than 90 stolen luxury vehicles worth over $8 million from the Port of Newark to Ghana and Nigeria. Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection screen export containers at Newark. Separately, U.S. rules require a used vehicle to be presented to CBP with its original title or certified copy at least 72 hours before export, with an electronic export filing.

Freight costs are energy-driven. Since the Iran war began Feb. 28, 2026, oil prices have swung sharply; vessels rerouting around the Cape of Good Hope have pushed container rates up and carriers have added fuel surcharges.

Trade policy is tightening capacity. U.S. tariffs mainly target imports, but for exporters the effect appears as tighter vessel space, new port fees and higher logistics costs.

For diaspora families and small importers, the practical consequence is that documentation errors, non-conforming vehicles and unclear pricing now carry consequences at both ends of the route, at the U.S. port and at Tema.

The Guldstreet Standard

The company's published commitments are: a written price before pickup, with no surprise fees at Tema; on-time pickup within the window given; an itemized invoice and receipt for every shipment and payment; WhatsApp updates from pickup to delivery; and replies within one hour between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.

In practice, the company said, professional services means preparing and checking documentation before cargo moves, guiding vehicle shippers through title presentation, export filing and GSA conformity requirements, quoting all-in pricing that includes customs clearance and Ghana import duties on personal effects, and maintaining a single communication channel from pickup to delivery.

Services and service area

Guldstreet Shipping handles barrels, boxes, totes, suitcases, rice, furniture, appliances, televisions and vehicles from New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia, with door delivery in Accra and Tema included and other cities quoted before booking, plus barrels to Togo and Ivory Coast; a 55-gallon barrel to Ghana is $190 all-in.

A Guldstreet Shipping spokesperson said: "The route has changed. Compliance now starts in the exporting country, and enforcement at Newark is real. Families who did nothing wrong are the ones exposed when paperwork is thin, so we treat documentation as part of the service, not an afterthought."

The spokesperson added: "Freight markets are volatile for reasons none of our customers control. What they can control is knowing the full price before pickup and having a record of every payment. That is the standard we are willing to be measured against."

Christmas booking

The company's booking cutoffs for estimated arrival Dec. 20-24 are Nov. 28 for New York City and New Jersey and Nov. 25 for Philadelphia.
